Why “The Breakup Playlist” is a Must-See Film, According to Movie Reviewers.

Star Cinema’s latest movie “The Breakup Playlist” earned not just P15 million on its first showing day but also favorable reviews from critics.

Oggs Cruz of Rappler says “’The Breakup Playlist’ has its heart and soul in all the right places.”
He adds, “’The Breakup Playlist’” is one fascinating experiment, hiding in the garb of a traditionally crafted romance… The film has humor, but of a kind that is different from most romantic comedies. The jokes are less situational, and more grounded on the personalities of the characters and the subculture they exist within.”

Meanwhile, Rito Asilo of Inquirer believes that “The Breakup Playlist” has the perfect lead stars and a very relatable plot.

“'The Breakup Playlist,' starring the appropriately cast Piolo Pascual and Sarah Geronimo, transports you back to vulnerable moments in your life when your stubborn heart refused to listen to what your mind was saying,” says Rito.

Film critic Philbert Dy of Clickthecity.com notes the undeniable the chemistry between Piolo and Sarah’s characters.

“The early scenes of Gino pursuing Trixie are pretty charming, and this turns into something more substantial as the characters get into the palpable chemistry that comes with singing together,” he says.

According to the entertainment site LionhearTV writes “the film is difficult to not fall in love with.”

“’The Breakup Playlist’ sings a sad melody, and takes beautiful runs and bends, that would surely make hearts melt,” it notes. “Seemingly singing the very same songs telling their characters’ own love story, are two incredibly capable actors, who manage to deliver their roles with utmost believability.”

Rodmagaru.com, on the other hand, shares how the “movie is precise and brave to introduce a different Sarah Geronimo and Piolo Pascual— to tackle real talk and to discuss real issues about relationships.”

It also says that Piolo and Sarah deserve to get acting nominations.
“Sarah Geronimo is delivering a coming of age performance in this movie. Flawless acting. I havent seen her determined as this,” it adds.

Supermorgy.com describes “The Breakup Playlist” as a “simple yet insightful film about love, career, family, forgiveness and second chances” and gives a thumbs up for Sarah’s convincing portrayal of her role and notes Piolo’s ability to create chemistry to any actress he works with.

“Sarah Geronimo is simply the next megastar! Pure, Exquisite, Sparkling and Versatile! No other artist can be so real when it comes to being giddy and happy,” it enthuses. “I also need to commend him (Piolo) for his outstanding and refined delivery of a character who was feeling down and a failure.”

Lastly, wazzup.ph enumerated seven things that makes “The Breakup Playlist” a must-see.

“The Breakup Playlist” focuses on law student and aspiring musician Trixie David (Sarah), who gets invited by famous rock star Gino Avila (Piolo) to join his band. Their love story is chronicled through the songs they wrote, sang, and listened to in the process.

“The Breakup Playlist” was written by Antoinette Jadaone (director of “That Thing Called Tadhana,” “Relaks, It’s Just Pag-ibig”).

Showing in 220 cinemas nationwide, the movie is directed by Dan Villegas and produced by Star Cinema and Viva Films.
