I watched it for three weeks and gave up. The Fookien was awkward, and there were too many violent scenes of parent hitting children (di na kailangan sabihin kung sino).

ReplyDeletei think the author and the rest of the audience who religiously watch the show every night (and trend the HTs, and consistently praise Ms. Rhian Ramos' performance) have a different definition of "justice" when it comes to playing the role.
ReplyDeleteThe mere fact that the show is garnering international attention should attest to that, and that the fans are asking for a DVD release (so that we could see Rhian and Glaiza in glorious HD and watch their scenes over and over again), an Indie Film (that would surely up the ante of their already brilliant level of acting), more guestings for Rhian Ramos (because we recognize her versatility in acting. She can make us cry, make us laugh, make us feel all the things).
How about the author, and everyone else who thinks the same, try to watch the show with their hate goggles off? Rhian Ramos will never be good in your eyes if you have already judged her and never gave her the chance.

Myth no 2: Sure the series didn’t rate, it has a choice demographic. It’s not exactly meant for housewives and your teenyboppers. It’s a risky show made to educate the masses on the dynamic of the lgbt community and the conservative views of our country. Most of the viewers are the demo that your ignorant formulaic soaps couldn’t get, the ones who actually watch series with substance. Also to say that the show did not fare well in social media is totally wrong, the show is the only GMA show that trends nightly,even on weekends.

Housewives could still be “kilig”. Let’s face it, gay men has more representation in mainstream media.We’ve had mainstream movies involving gay men,private Benjamin, that movie with luis and JLC, and a ton more. Lesbians however…there’s a certain double standard here. Lesbians are usually butch supporting characters with no storyline whatsoever. The only local movies with lesbians are all indie. Also let’s admit it, most straight women esp the housewife types (the demo for teleseryes) in this country find girls liking girls “ewww”. Sure, the show has a following of straight but not narrow viewers (bless you loves) and a gaggle of straight girls who fell for GDC(I know that swag right?) .However in a conservative country like ours, no matter how much progress the world has gone through, we are still fairly backwards. Thus establishing the importance of a show like TRMD/MHL.

Myth No 3: Malamya ang story…how is it malamya even? Have you seen the show? It’s the only in the PH with that fast paced storytelling. There will always be a roller coaster of emotions with every episode. Aside from the occasional teleserye logic and plotholes, this script is brilliantly written. Every happy scene puts the viewer in cloud 9 and every fucking painful scene hurts. Suzi Doctolero’s use of parallels is brilliant and is an effective way of telling the story and conveying the characters motivation. They break formula, just when you think they’d go one way, they completely surprise you. It hurts when it’s supposed to hurt and it’s happy when it’s supposed to be. It’s never malamya. This show has been known for its intensity. There is never a dull moment. Even the supporting characters are brilliantly written, those who left the show probably couldn’t take the pain cause this show is intense, and it’s not just a show filled with cutesy montages and unwarranted kilig moment. This show’s got beef. It’s full of substance. If that’s malamya then your definitely not smart enough for this show.

Really…sure she could pull off sheltered jade but everything else would be “Malamya” (let’s use your words cause you’re such a great writer gahd I am so compelled by your eloquence). Rhian might have had a slow start sure, I admit that, first week MVP was GDC, but you have to factor in that everyone else had months to prepare for their roles while Rhian had days. The thing is, have you seen the show recently? Rhian slays every scene. She is Jade now. She owns it. Anyone who says otherwise probably don’t watch the show at all!

TRMD is the most successful show they have. It trends every night even on weekends. It has an international following. The videos hit the thousand mark with views. And the most important thing is the viewers have spending power. Have you seen the success of the soundtrack and GDC’s album? Imagine a DVD release? GMA will make money, they just have to learn how to market stuff.

I watched it for three weeks and gave up. The Fookien was awkward, and there were too many violent scenes of parent hitting children (di na kailangan sabihin kung sino).
I wanted to follow, but the problem was with the script choices, not even the acting.
Partly true, sure, so much violence, awkward fookien but the script is effective. It’s a teleseye for crying out loud. I used to hate on that aspect too but I spoke to a couple of film school grads, and we talked about writing theory, TRMD is well written yo…do you want a show with no substance and all pacute montages that amount to 2/3s of the episode?
