Miss Universe 2016 to be held in World's Largest Indoor Arena?
In an interview by TV Patrol of ABSCBN, Tourism Chief Wanda Corazon Teo said that Pia Wurtzbach is expected to pay a courtesy call with the newly-elect Philippine President Rodrigo to discuss about the country's hosting of the 65th edition of Miss Universe (2016). Teo , also a former Bb. Pilipinas contestant, said that MUO President Paula Shugart already provided a date for the pageant which is set on January 29, 2017. Philippines will need at least $12M to host the event.
UPDATE : Though it is not yet final since the organization is still waiting for the approval of Pres. Duterte, but if approved, the pageant will take place either at the SM Mall of Asia Arena or Philippine Arena.
If plans push through, this will be the third time that the beauty pageant will be held in the Philippines. It was on the morning of July 21 when the Miss Universe 1974 was held for the first time at the then newly constructed Folk Arts Theater.
In Miss Universe 1994 Pageant, it was staged again here in the Philippines at the PICC (Philippine Convention Center). India's Sushmita Sen declared as the winner.
When organizing a big event like this, choosing a venue is the one decision that will have the largest impact on history. Whenever we hear of this topic "Miss Universe may be held in Philippines", we think of jaw-dropping’ Philippine Arena.
The Philippine Arena was described as the world's largest indoor arena at the 50-hectare Ciudad de Victoria in Bocaue, Bulacan. And with the huge size and seating capacity that could take in up to 50,000 people, this is the best venue for world-class gatherings especially the ones which need to accommodate large international attendance like Miss Universe.
While the dome is owned by Iglesia ni Cristo, the events are not restricted to just the ones affiliated with the religious group. And of course, events are subject for approval.
So will the biggest pageantry event like Miss Universe pass their standards? Oopps How about City of Dreams Manila? Or in Cebu? Hmmm.. Well let's see!
