Angelica Pangniban, for instance, made a sharp turn from her "kawawa" roles in films when she top-billed "Santa Santita" at age 17. As the cruel and unforgiving Claudia in "Pangako Sa 'Yo," Panganiban is taking on a character that follows a calculated succession of roles in the past decade.

From innocent "alila" Becky, moody teenager Jelai, scorned wife Karyn, to the vengeful and sultry Rubi -- Panganiban, little by little, shed her child star image and took on increasingly daring portrayals.

While Panganiban's transition to a screen bombshell was slow but sure, this wasn't the case with some of her contemporaries, whose own re-invention was drastic and a solo decision and less a premeditated management choice.
