Kapuso Actress Maxene Magalona magiging Kapamilya na?!
Are you wondering why Maxene Magalona made it to the worldwide trends on micro-blogging site Twitter on Monday?
The 27-year-old actress, to the surprise of ABS-CBN viewers, debuted on "It's Showtime" as a guest judge that day, sitting alongside mainstay Jhong Hilario and actress Jessy Mendiola.
Magalona, one of eight children of late OPM icon Francis Magalona with wife Pia, has been identified with GMA-7 since 2001.
"Sa lahat ng mga Kapamilya na nanonood, nais ko lang magpakilala," she said, after being introduced by "It's Showtime" co-host Karylle as a "hurado" for the week. "Ako po si Maxene Magalona. Hello!"
Magalona readily performed a "sample" when urged by co-host Billy Crawford and the audience. She sang parts of her father's hit, "Cold Summer Nights," with altered lyrics as a tribute to the late rapper.
Moments after Magalona was introduced on the show, her name zoomed up as a trending topic on Twitter locally and, later, worldwide.
She took to Instagram to thank those who tuned in to the program, adding that it's a "good feeling" to trend online other than due to an "off-key" televised performance.
Magalona said: "Ang sarap pala mag-trending nang hindi dahil sa piyok at pagkanta ng off-key! Salamat ulit sa lahat ng mga Kapamilya na nanuod at sumuporta sa akin sa Showtime! Bukas ulit!"
The actress was referring to a past performance on the now-defunct GMA-7 variety show "Party Pilipinas," which similarly made her a trending topic in January 2012 supposedly due to her singing off-key.
While Magalona has yet to confirm if she has officially signed with
ABS-CBN, she expressed on Instagram that she is happy "to be back" after
more than two decades.
"Back in the halls of ABS-CBN," she said in a post showing her posing in the network's studio wing. "The last time I was here, I was still a little girl running around and being so makulit as one of the cast members of Ang TV 21 years ago."
"It feels good to be back! Thanks for the warm welcome, mga Kapamilya!"
